What Makes Del Rey Yacht Club Unique?
- Equity Club: Unlike some other yacht clubs, DRYC is an equity club, which means that our members are part-owners of our Club. We get to vote on large expenditures, Bylaw changes, and Board of Director elections.
- Facility: Since 1965, DRYC has been located on Palawan Way and has a long term lease on our parcel. Some of our amenities include:
- Dining: Open five days a week for indoor or outdoor dining with quality cuisine at subsidized prices.
- Slips: DRYC is one of the few yacht clubs in California to control and maintain its own slips exclusively for members.
- Parking: Where else in MdR can you park for free so close to your boat? Nowhere.
- Food & Beverage: Full bar and dining room tended by friendly staff and a variety of food options.
- Pool: Heated year round, with lifeguards working daily all summer.
- Storage: dinghies, kayaks, SUPs, and boating gear.
- Hoist: 3000 lb hoist.
- Junior Program: DRYC’s Junior Program is unique in that its goal is to foster a lifelong love of sailing for kids, not just focusing on racing dinghies. Our balanced curriculum of racing, seamanship, variety of dinghies (both solo and doublehanded), and keelboats gives kids a well rounded opportunity to experience many aspects of sailing. In recent years, our juniors have distinguished themselves in match racing and team racing stateside and worldwide. They are currently internationally ranked.
- Keelboat Racing Program: DRYC has a rich tradition of racing, with some members competing around the world in prestigious regattas, as well as running some of Southern California’s most popular races. Our seven-race Berger and Stein series, combined, are the best attended random leg races in the region and attract top boats in both Performance and Cruiser divisions. And, our 45-mile downwind Channel Islands to MdR race is growing in popularity. DRYC owns two J/22s, a Martin 242, and two Lido 14s, all of which are available for members to rent for day sailing, racing, or sailing lessons from certified instructors.
- Social Events: All of our social events are driven by volunteers, whether it’s Jazz Night featuring live bands or major holiday extravaganzas, our events generate a lot of fun and energy. There are kids and family oriented events, too.
- Cat Harbor: DRYC is one of the only yacht clubs to have an exclusive lease at Catalina. For more than 50 years, our Cat Harbor facility has been a source of fun for families; features include gas grills, restrooms, hot showers, picnic tables, full galley kitchen, and a dinghy dock. It’s a magical place worth visiting all year round.
- Community Leadership: DRYC serves the boating community in several ways including hosting dozens of events (free of charge) every year to local organizations and partners with others on affordable programs that increase accessibility to boating for hundreds of people annually. DRYC members are active with our harbor association, SCYA, and RBOC.
- Culture: Most importantly, DRYC’s culture is friendly and positive. It’s easy to make friends, and there are many opportunities to meet other members who share interests in all aspects of boating. In every sense, DRYC is a family of boaters.
Why should you join our family? Because DRYC offers a high quality facility in MdR, year round boating activities and social events, and an opportunity to make lifelong friends among fellow boaters.
